Your first t.v. crush

Come on, we all had one. My first was Rowdy Yates on Rawhide. The show debuted when I was only six, so it must have been at least a few seasons in that he won my prepubescent heart. When I was 12 I fell for Illya Kuryakin on The Man From U.N.C.L.E. And shortly after that I was head over heels for the aloof but oh-so-sexy Mr. Spock on Star Trek. What about you? What t.v. character was your first major crush?

I only remember my first crush because of having a conversation with my parents about my plan to name my child “McKeever,” as in the main character on the short-lived show “McKeever and the Colonel.” I have no memory of what that character looked like but I vividly remember insisting that I would name my child after him, and my parents trying to explain that McKeever is a last name. After that, as I got older, well, who DIDN’T I have a crush on? Pretty much any guy of any age between 12 and 60. I was very open-minded and flexible!

My first TV crush was Penny (Gloria Winters) on “Sky King”. She played Sky King’s niece. She’s technically old enough to be my mother, but due to her short stature, she looked pretty good to a 6 year old. My brother preferred a slightly more age appropriate Annette Funicello. We had such good taste.

….. my first TV crush was James Garner as “Maverick”! looking at IMDB, I see it premiered in sept. 1957, I was 5 then so I probably didn’t see it until a few years later (it ran till 1962). But that was must see TV. …. then, as mentioned above, the Man From U.N.C.L.E. had me transfixed with David McCallum (Ilya Kuryakin) - the strong silent mysterious type! oooh, a spy! I liked Robert Vaughn too - that improbable name of Napoleon Solo - and the suave James Bond style character. sigh. …. in those pre-VCR days, I remember screaming at my parents when they insisted I go out somewhere with them on an “UNCLE” night and sulking because I’d missed an episode. :-)

and then there was “Here Come The Brides” - Bobby Sherman and the older brothers as well! (1968) and of course Star Trek — hey, I liked Mr. Spock, too! again - strong and silent and mysterious - I see a pattern here - and of course heroic Captain Kirk…. wow, memories!

Yes! I had the pre-vcr blues too and I even remember one night telling my parents that if I couldn’t stay up and watch Bonanza (I also had a huge crush on Hoss for awhile — don’t judge) that “life is just not worth living!” Oh, how I cringe with shame at the memory. (Although I am sure they just found my dramatics very funny.)

As early as I can remember, I ADORED Tony Dow on Leave it to Beaver, and wrote my first “fan” letter to him…imagine my ecstacy when I received a signed picture of him in the mail (I held on to it for over 40 years…unwilling to let that memory go!)….and yes, I too had a crush on HOSS on Bonanza (the big, burly, shy type were always my favorites…I was devastated when he passed away too early.) I never could figure out why I alway had crushes on the “sidekicks” (except Festus) and loved Tonto, Chester, Dan-o, Georgie (Buddy Ebson to Fess Parker’s Davy Crockett), Roy (Mickey Mouse Club) and others….
and thanks for reminding me of U.N.C.L.E…..I really did like that show although I was too young to always understand it…but I think my most favority of ALL was Mission Impossible!
What fun to meander down memory lane like this…
Oh, and there was the time I got lost at Disneyland because Zorro (Guy Williams, my ULTIMATE tv crush) was in the parade and I just followed right along after him! (truth be told, I’d do it again!)

Guy Williams? I’d follow him too!!

wow, there were so many :) i loved maverick too, and david soul on HCTB, plus annette (yeah) and little joe and roy rogers and various monkees, eventually. i liked beaver’s friend gordon. loved the hardy boys on mm club. i had lots of crushes. but the one that haunts me is Enzo Cerusico who was on a short-lived one-season tv series about an italian pseudo-detective. i think it must have been on when i was in junior high. i’ve never seen or heard anything about him or the show since!

I guess I didn’t love any of the women actresses, I admired the prettiest ones but my all time favorite was Ann Wyman who was President Regans first wife and when he divorced her I was mad at him for doing that.

  9. sidorski Says:

Sorry but Regans first wife was Jane Wyman, I goofed.
