New Years Resolutions? (Ha!)
Most of us have them–sometimes lots of them. But how often are any of these resolutions carried through after the first couple of days of January? Has there been a resolution that you’ve kept? Is there a resolution that comes up year after year that you’re still working on?

Every year I firmly resolve to lose weight. This resolve always gets put aside until after all the holiday leftovers are gone. I mean, waste not, want not, right? I have to do something about all that perfectly good pie, those nice cookies that my neighbors so thoughtfully baked, those spiced nuts I put out for my holiday guests and carefully put into baggies after they left. Think of all the starving people in the world! Wouldn’t it be immoral for me to throw away food? Wait, where was I? Oh yeah, resolutions. Sure I’ll lose weight. Next week. Or maybe next month. There’s a lot of pie in my fridge.

AS far as I know I’ve never made a resolution becasuse I know that I would never keep them, so the heck with them.

My resolution is usually to get up earlier and exercise, reasoning that it will get my blood flowing and make me sail right into the day with a positive attitude. Unfortunately, when that little old alarm goes off it is COLD and still dark out there, and I figure just ten more minutes in my warm cozy bed won’t hurt. The rest is history. Maybe if I make my resolutions in the summer . . .

I used to make resolutions but like most people I never kept them. So now I’m like sidorski and say the heck with them! If there’s something I’m determined to do, I’ll either do it or not. I can always make retroactive resolutions once I’ve done something good–like giving plates of holiday cookies to the neighbors, something I always meant to do but only got around to for the first time this year. So right after I gave them out I told myself that THAT was my New Years resolution. No feeling guilty about something I *didn’t* do!

I am SO tired of the self-loathing that accompanies the failure of trying to keep to my resolutions….now I just make “commitments” to myself, and hope I can stick to them….(usually can’t)…..but I’m finding that daily affirmations really help because I keep needing reminders of what it is I want to do (since it’s easy to slip into “automatic” as I go about my day).
Maybe I’ll start making a daily resolution/commitment and see if that works…because if I screw up on a New Year’s promise by January 3, I say “what the heck” for the whole year!
